This course explores preventing occupational exposure hazards and communicable and infectious diseases. Infection control is a dynamic field, with discoveries being made, court decisions announced, and outbreaks tracked. Students will discover what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with state and local health officials, are doing to monitor emerging infectious diseases in an attempt to prevent outbreaks. Students will benefit from the discussions of the disease process, protection from communicable disease, and post-exposure protocols. Background information such as legal issues and the immune system provide knowledge regarding exposure to infectious diseases and fundamental infection control.
