Course Description:
This course will focus on the healthcare environment, the healthcare team and healthcare delivery systems in the United States. The course will also include an overview of the healthcare industry. Students will learn about the roles and responsibilities for the healthcare provider, billers and coders, and the role and impact of health insurance carriers. The students will explore the scope and practice, types of providers, reimbursement, premiums, deductibles, co-payments, and first, second, and third parties. The course will also provide information on the Affordable Care Act and other government policies that impact the healthcare industry. In addition, HIPAA, fraud and abuse will also be discussed. Credentials and salaries for billers and coders will also be addressed in this course. Students will use of a variety of resources including videos, practice scenarios, labeling activities, and simulation educational activities.
